Tse' Bit' ai' "The Winged Rock"

Bonnie Johnson December 14, 2020

Tse' Bit' ai' or later named Shiprock, New Mexico by Anglo settlers, rises nearly 1,583 feet (482.5 m) above the high-desert plain of Navajo Country. According to the Navajo, Tse' Bit' ai' was once an enormous bird who brought the ancestors from the north on its back. At sundown the bird turned back into a gigantic rock. The people lived on top of the rock until a lighting storm stranded those who lived there. In 1970, climbers were banned from this sacred site.

Three Red Tulips

Bonnie Johnson June 19, 2020

I bought these beautiful red tulips at my local grocery store. My intention was to photograph them in my studio on a black background. I just wasn’t able to capture their loveliness, until I went outside. Natural light and a diffuser. I love these three charming ladies!

Daisies Looking Away

Bonnie Johnson June 1, 2020

Is looking away from an important issue morally wrong. I believe that when we take care of each other with the same kindness and attention we give our loved ones, we won’t have to look away anymore.

Azalea Amagasa

Bonnie Johnson May 21, 2020

My new flower! Since we moved to Columbia, Maryland in 2017, I just starting to get to know my own yard. I don’t think I’ve never seen this beautiful plant bloom before. We had two very large trees removed last summer. They were very tall old-growth trees that were dying. Nothing could be done. I’m thinking it was too shady for these pretty little coral pink flowers to bud! I miss the trees but this is a nice consolation prize.

The Black Cuillin, Isle of Skye

Bonnie Johnson January 15, 2020

We were able to go back to the most enchanted place on earth twice! My husband Joe and traveled to Scotland in 2014. We took a train from London, where we spent a few days to Edinburgh. We spent the next week (actually Joe did all the driving, thank God) all over the Scottish countryside. With two days of Edinburgh behind us, we were on the road! From Stirling Castle to Douglas to Oban, Loch Ness, and historic Culloden, to St. Andrew and the idyllic fishing village of St. Monans.

Art Belongs in the Kitchen

Water, grease build-up, flying food, and liquids. It's amazing how far red wine can travel when a mere glass is dropped to the floor. Best to hang that canvas print in another room.

If you decide to frame, be sure to add an acrylic glaze instead of glass, just in case your artwork falls to the floor.
